@rlier23 Well, as to why I'm not just restoring the current database to the improved infrastructure the new one will be on:1. It may be silly, but ever since my initial oversight in choosing this TLD, I've disliked that the obvious shorthand for the instance is "BB.C". Changing the domain name of a Pleroma instance while maintaining continuity of its contents (as the name is relevant to how the database functions) is apparently not easy. I haven't seen any hard info on how @sjw (who is exponentially more capable than I am) actually managed it yet and even if I knew how, it may be more effort than I care for.2. Last time I tried transitioning the existing instance to Soapbox-BE it ended up being harder than I expected due to a number of discrepancies in version, OTP vs. Source, and so on that made it difficult to discern what was failing.3. Due to Beefyboys.club being my first hobby project of this sort ever, I made a lot of big mistakes early on and some of the weird recurring issues we've had might be due to things I accidentally broke (particularly in the database) and wouldn't have the precision know-how to find, let alone correct. Why carry on with a perpetually troubled instance when it would be interesting to see what things are resolved by starting fresh, especially with there being other compelling reasons to do so.4. I think these types of services are better treated almost like an intermediary between an imageboard and "everlasting" garbage like Facebook. I make an effort to have stuff last on the scale of months to a few years so user posts can have some ongoing through line, but even if I had permanence in mind, things go wrong or malicious third parties appear, and turnover is inevitable on a long enough scale. Throughout our community, I encourage platform redundancy and agility anyways since we're some of The Bad Guys on the current internet and in the current clown world.
