@RowdyRamzan honestly I take this as a leading indicator for just how well the war is going, all things considered. you had UA regulars holding out in a way that suggests they really did expect to either beat back the Russian invasion generally or at least get unblocked at some point. probably they bought the line that Russia could not do combined arms warfare for more than 30 days (a claim floating around in the leadup to the special military operation). we learn several things from this, not the least of which is that even some hardline elements of Ukrainian command see the writing on the wall

@DK_Dharmaraj Yeah, judging from the lack of retreat on the line of contact for Donbass it definitely looks like UA isn't getting good intelligence. I suspect after the process of the destruction of the UA starts this stuff will accelerate quite drastically. Probably don't really need to siege Kiev if everybody else surrenders

@RowdyRamzan @DK_Dharmaraj I’ve thought for a long time that permanent taking of Kiev is not an objective. Too symbolic to the West, maybe too gay and Westernized to absorb, as compared with Mariupol or Kharkov. Bigger question, if the SE front collapses, will Russia try to take Odessa? It is a Russian city. Leaving rump-Ukraine without sea access would cripple them completely. Too much twisting the knife? Is Putler ruthless enough?

@DK_Dharmaraj @RowdyRamzan The next month will be interesting as we'll see the effects of continuous Russian air attacks and missile strikes have on the strategic capabilities of the AFU. Ultimately a lot of the pro-ukr analysis incorrectly believes this "special operation" has some kind of time or capacity based limitation where if they can outlast the Russian-DPR/LPR forces to a certain extant they'll withdraw, not realising that this is basically an existential problem for Russia, meaning they are in it until their objectives are met.As time goes on this belief will fade (coupled with a "propaganda hangover" in regards to the behaviour disparity between the two sides) reducing the spiritual capacity for resistance along with the material.

@RowdyRamzan @DK_Dharmaraj 1. ukraine can't retreat from donbas, because it'd get destroyed in the open or overran2. zelenskyy wants ukrainians to fight to the death, killing as many russians, but they'll probably surrender en massejust a couple thoughts i had. bad intelligence, bad strategy, impulsive decision making on behalf of the ukrainian command.
