I used to buy a lot of #music from #google play. It had reasonable (and localized) prices and, most important of all, you could download a #DRM free copy of the songs you bought. With it gone, and youtube music being the shit service it is, it seems your only options now are:#bandcamp - a great platform to support smaller/more obscure artists (recommended btw!) that gives you DRM free files, but with prices aren’t localized and the catalog is more restrictive.#amazon - which is region locked to only specific parts of the world.Looks like it’s time to hoist the black and venture the high-seas once more, mateys

How to get neatly tagged, reasonably good quality music from youtube: You’ll need youtube-dl and MusicBrainz PicardFind your desire album / song on youtube, get the linkcd into your desired directory (or preconfigure it beforehand) and run youtube-dl -x --audio-quality 0 --add-metadata --ignore-errors $YOUR_LINK_HEREAfter it downloads, add the folder to MusicBrainz Picard , load the selected files to the middle column and hit Scan butoon - this will search for metadata in the net. (It’s a very comprehensive, even finding metadata for chinese-hand-drawing-related songs)Save the metadata(Bonus) Setup syncthing to run in your PC / server and in your phone to automatically transfer songs via your local networkEnjoyKnow of a better way, or alternate way? Share it away

@jfera YouTube audio is capped at 192kbps even if the upload was higher quality, use soulseek instead

@jfera also consider using beets instead of Picard, it can pull from musicbrainz and many other sources too, which is necessary if your music is of a genre not well covered by MB (current DnB for example)

@14 Soulseek completely flew under my radar, same thing for beets thanks for the suggestions m8. Picard+ytdl so far have been working fine for my use case, but especially with google wanting to kill youtube-dl it’s important to have a plan-b
