As someone who hasn't ever been on Instagram and is now slowly trying to use it (I know, I just want to keep in touch with people), it's such a weird experience.

@Gina I gave up on it some years ago when it stopped being a photo sharing service and became whatever it is now. Perhaps the Glass app is nicer but I don’t share photos there either. I’m happy on this mastodon instance sharing my stuff and on smugmug.

@Gina the new user interface of @pixelfed is excellent. Way better than Instagram. And with an awesome community. On PixelFed users are not just there for self-branding.From my point of view, Instagram is basically an ad service (for capitalist companies or persons like Elon Musk). It is destructive for a lot of people, especially for the teenagers. It can make feel mediocre.

@roscisco I do as well, I' just trying to get in touch with local communities here in Amsterdam more. It's too often that I'm missing out on something cool that was "posted on Insta." Don't know if it worth it though.

@Gina I used to have an Instagram account, but honestly I just didn't get it. It was fine for sharing images but as a social network I wasn't a big fan. Still not. I like #PixelFed because it still has that photo share feel to it, and it's federated so if you want to go all social network on it, you can from Mastodon. It's just never seemed like a place that feels like, "Hey, let's have a conversation.". Comment on a picture, signoff. That's it. I guess I'm just old.

@mike I used to use it but I'd basically curated my feed to be 100% rock climbing and I never engaged, I just looked at pictures of cool climbs.

@ChrisWere I have an Instagram -- it seemed like a good place to post cool renders from my project, but it's designed to make it really hard to upload images from my computer.I worked around it just once, and posted ONE image. Haven't posted anything since!Supposedly it's connected to Facebook, so I ought to be able to post from my FB Page, but I never bothered to figure out how.I'm hoping the Fediverse will clobber the Metaverse so I never will have to...@mike @Gina

@Gina @mpmilestogo I have it as a photographer... I used to use it to catch up with friends - that became pointless when it stopped being chronological.Now I only have an account basically so people can tag me to credit when sharing my photos, and FB for a few groups that don;t exist anywhere else because people are lazy.

@Gina I think that is not a good idea to start using instagram while you are working on a thesis because toxic media platforms can cause addiction, depression and loss of focus.It is more important spending your time in your thesis than in the fake feed of instagram. ⚖️🤔
