There are ongoing evacuations from every part of Ukraine, organized by Ukraine, and as part of the ongoing negotiations with Russia. Often times, Russia agrees to allow an evacuation corridor and sets the corridor on a mined street, or fires artillery at fleeing civilians. There's videos of Ukrainian forces preventing people from evacuating Mariupol. There's reasonable accusations that Azov was using human shields in Mariupol. Azov was using apartment buildings as firing positions. There was a giant munitions stockpile in a civilian mall right inside of Kiev. There are artillery setup in school yards. Soldiers using school gymnasiums as barracks. Zelensky literally complained when Russia was evacuating civilians out of Mariupol, depriving Azov of human shields. There's videos of Russians providing humanitarian aid and escorting civilians out of the city. All the evidence points to Ukraine's total disregard for civilian life.People tell me the Ukrainian government doesn't even have the ability to surrender Mariupol because Azov is effectively autonomous and they wouldn't even listen to Zelensky if he said otherwise. But you know, you seem to believe Azov is no big thing you probably don't believe that.

They share a border with Russia and used to be a historical province under their rule. If Russia hadn't annexed Crimea, and supported the separatists in Donbas, then Ukraine probably would have no reason nor desire to let NATO into their country. Russia's constant aggression in Europe and the Caucauses is the immediate cause of every escalation on either side, and I don't see how you or anyone else can decouple that and then go on to blame anyone else.

Russia is a waning power where people flee in droves to western countries. Putin has admitted in a conference in Zurich in 2006 I think where he asked the US to join NATO after the Soviet Union's collapse. They refused apparently. NATO has no purpose to exist after the collapse of communism. Its a way for the US to demilitarize their client states and render incapable of defending themselves without US support. Would Russia as it is today be aggressive against a Europe where all major Nations are sufficiently militarized? I don't think so, there's no need for them to be the antagonist. The sanctions since Obama have only drove Russia into a corner geopolitically and into the arms of China. The US does not want a strong Europe, it wants a Europe rendered a a servile coalition dependent on US finance, military and their system (SWIFT, IMF, NGOs, Energy, IT, Pharma, Culture, Internet etc..)
