A personal experience which may be of interest. I recently filed my income tax return. I used TurboTax and apparently TurboTax allowed a credit for the covid relief of $2,800. Interestingly within 2 weeks I got a letter from IRS telling me that they reviewed and changed my return and I now owed them $2,800. What amazed me was the period of time that they reacted to that when all we hear is they have insufficient numbers of agents and need a gazillion more dollars of our money to perform.

@ChaplainEric Thanks for sharing. I haven't filed yet, but intend to using that system. It is something to look out for.The government always asks for more money.

@ChaplainEric Millions upon millions of people and especially businesses file paper returns. All of those returns have to be scanned in, reviewed and corrected before going to examination. Electronically filed returns process electronically and errors are discovered electronically through automation and notification happens through automation without an examiner physically looking at your return.
