Back to work after 6 days off from work. Just shy of 13000 emails in those 6 days pre-filter. Email is ridiculous. #email #vacation #broken

@mike Good God! I feel like email is less a part of my life than ever. As a manager I might get 20-30 per week on a bad week of which 2-3 might be something I have to think about.

@chris My pre-caffeinated brain actually let me post that before things actually finished downloading. Final tally was 16335 emails total. That's from 5PM on Friday the 4th (end of day) to 8AM on the 15th (start of day today). 6 work days off, but several more non-work days sprinkled in. After filters, I've still got 440 emails to sift through.

@chris That pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter. Of those 440, 12 were meeting invites, the majority of which were NOT departmental or non-project related meetings. The first of those is in 11 minutes. 1 hour after returning from vacation. That person must have some massive trust in my capability to get through emails and realize I've got a 9am meeting today.

@sbanwart In the past I"ve done that, but this time I wanted to completely disconnect. I turned off all my computers (even personal ones) and didn't use any of them during my time off. I wanted to make sure the temptation wasn't even there.

@mike almost everything you post about your work suggests you need to leave ASAP - email itself is not the problem - the work culture/usage of it is very much - I have a feeling every communication channel would be abused. But so much noise would make me miss any signal buried there - even without vacation pauses.For comparison, I had under 300 mails after 4 Weeks of vacation, almost all of were filterable.
