A guy outta France is making some very interesting microphones with graphene mic elements. This is a new development, and just like in so many other industries I expect graphene to revolutionize microphones as well.

@Ricardus always thought MEMS was gonna be the next thing to hit the industry - they're what's used in phones and they're tiny and cheap and they sound good, you could put a whole bunch of them in a microphone body and do all sorts of things with them - not only multiple pickup patterns but stuff like switch between different diaphragm sizes (by combining multiple mic elements that are spaced closely together)

@Ricardus just imagine a mic consisting of a big array of tiny capsules and all the characteristics you could produce

@Ricardus the small opening on MEMS capsules do tend to make them "whistle" a bit at the resonance frequency, but nothing a little filtering couldn't fix

@mxtthxw I don't know if I heard a sound sample yet. But the frequency response curve lacked some low end., He can probably address that in his amplifier circuit. I'll have to look for sound samples.

@Ricardus nice, I wonder if they'll be a particular characteristic that sets them apart like a ribbon or such like.I'm assuming they're still capacitor microphones, still always fun to try a new tool.
