@matrix tbh I feel like boomers did arguably worse. They made the laws like the ones that got Dankula arrested, and they made the laws that gets anybody nuked if they hear 0.2 seconds of a copyrighted song on stream. They went after the "piracy" sites, they were the ones that realized that they could make MORE money with their own streaming service instead of just having everything on Netflix. I'm not saying Jack and Zuckerberg, and the retards at google aren't at fault because they are, but the boomers allowed this to happen. If they wanted to save free speech they woulda done it already. Twitter was just a twinkle in Jack's eye at that point, Jeff was still selling books. They enabled the rest of this to happen. That makes them arguably worse in my eyes

Boomers might not be principled on free speech, but there weren't mass political movements in the US in favor of that stuff. Better examples of Boomer hypocrisy are when they cancelled the Dixie Chicks for opposing the Iraq War or when they bitched about Kaepernick's kneeling.

The lobbying from the music industry was successful because boomers in office took the bribes and let them have power. Hate speech laws exist because the boomers in office either made them or let them go through. I'm not saying that other non boomers aren't at fault but if someone bangs on your door and you let them in, and then they proceed to kill your wife without even a fight, you're at fault too.

As soon as user generated content became a thing that broke into the mainstream consciousness corporations would inevitably want a piece of the action and governments would want to regulate it. They want the Internet to be like radio and TV; under strict control, family friendly, clean, safe, unthreatening, covered with advertisements and locked behind a tiered paywall system.
