Question:Gold and silver have come back in price a bit since the panic right after Feb 24.If you were going to buy some more metal right now, which would you prefer?

@Andre My preference is silver because of the price and being able to purchase bullion in 1/4 to 1oz rounds which are easily used for trade if need be.

@TXPatriot2021 Silver being more easily broken down into smaller-value increments is indeed an important functional advantage if it is ever to be used to purchase stuff in a hyper-inflationary environment. There are gold bars designed to be broken into 1gram bits that have some of this capacity too.Do you see any other advantage of silver over gold right now?

@Andre coloidial (sp) silver, US coins pre-1964. 90% silver and allows for small exchanges. Otherwise silver. Under priced compared to gold. Also allows for easier exchange. It's hard to exchange an ounce of gold when it goes to $20K/oz. US Eagles are bulky though. So... depends what you are trying to accomplish. Protect value (gold) or be able to use for barter (silver)...

@Andre Not being expert, the fact silver is a primary component in manufacturing much more than gold gives it an advantage in my opinion. If a person can afford gold, then buying bullion that can be broken as you say makes a lot of sense.Silver has been one of the best investments I have made. I have been buying it for more than 6 years and am at a 21% return (inl. dealer cost). Not sure this is a good response or not.

@Rumblestone @TXPatriot2021 I buy mine from a dealer in Tauranga. Buffalo rounds are the best price for 1oz units these days, at least in NZ.

@TXPatriot2021 @Rumblestone It looks like your prices have about a 2% advantage over the lowest I can get in NZ. Makes sense considering shipping and middleman costs.

@Andre I don't think Gold is used in commercial processes...Look at historical prices for Platinum... price have remained more or less stable since 2016...Silver and Gold are trading at premiums... and have potential to go lower...(This by my husband who is smarter than me! @TXPatriot2021 I need to get educated about investing in gold and silver. Got any educational resource recommendations? Are you buying coins? That's all I see on the first page, haven't explored any father than that yet. Too many questions popping into my head. @Andre

@Rumblestone @Andre In fact, I never expected to be on the upside of this but expected to stay even which means stocks would have provided a better return. If silver goes down to $20 Oz again I will buy more but for now I am good. Storing and moving silver can be a pain because of the weight.

@Rumblestone @TXPatriot2021 I am buying rounds rather than coins (rounds look like coins but are not issued as legal tender in conjunction with a government).Rounds will be easier to use individually as a substitute for failed currency. A 1kg silver bar is slightly cheaper than 32 troy ounce rounds but is a harder thing to sell/use in certain situations.

@Andre silver is cheap and has a heck of a ceiling, but it hasn't moved like many thought it would. It's also easier to use if things break down. Those $2000 gold coins aren't going to be much use for trading with the neighbors for meat or ammo.

@Truther @surferistic @waronmorons The heaviest that I've picked up is 200kg at a novice comp some years ago. The last time I was lifting I picked up 180 a couple of times. I have been off my workout life since Ardern killed BJJ for me, except for a little bit of trail running and walking.I need to get back into the gym but need the vax pass requirement to be lifted. My aim, in general, for basic fitness is 1x BW for bench, and 2x BW for squat and deadlift.

@Truther @surferistic @waronmorons What grip on the bar do you use?Have you bought a good belt yet? Do you use knee sleeves (not wraps)?I HIGHLY recommend SBD belts.

@AndreI use a mixed group. I can do overhand at 135#, but I don't do it as much as I should. By grip I'm assuming you mean hand placement and not an aid to grip with.I've never used a belt. And no knee sleeves. At one point I maxed out at 245# but haven't got back up to that weight in a handful of years. Recently, I started using a hex bar to change it up and change my stance. With a straight bar I have a super wide stance. The hex forces me to narrow it. @surferistic @waronmorons

@AndreThose are good aims. I'd like to reach those as well. We quit the gym when masks were mandatory and haven't gone back. Workouts are a bit limited due to space. I aim for running 1.5-2 miles 4 ish times a week.I also like to do push-ups. Usually about 40 ish, though I'm almost 50 and think I'll make 50 my norm. 😁 @surferistic @waronmorons

@Truther @surferistic @waronmorons I've never played with a hex bar.If you are going to chase some numbers, I very highly suggest a very good belt. The ability to brace properly is a huge safety margin.Knee sleeves are a weird sort of magic. I get 10 kg out of some fabric that offers literally no support. I warm up to about 120-130 kg with overhand and then switch to mixed. And I squat about three times as often as I deadlift.
