https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/community/amazons-assistance-in-ukraine#March4<< We’ve suspended shipment of retail products to customers based in Russia and Belarus, and we will no longer be accepting new Russia and Belarus-based AWS customers and Amazon third-party sellers. We are also suspending access to Prime Video for customers based in Russia, and we will no longer be taking orders for New World, which is the only video game we sell directly in Russia... No AWS data centers in Russiathat's gotta be hilarious for Russian companies running on AWS right nowI mean along with the lights being turned out on everything ELSE maybe "can our computers continue to run" is just a small thingbut having the computers still running, just hosted in countries that don't like youthat might be interesting

Anyway, just roleplaying out what might happen in some far future where, something unthinkably bad happens to the USA like, say, a fascist US President getting elected (which could never happen but bear with me)and then how would that affect non-US customers running Azure or AWS clouds.Sure their data is still physically located in non-US datacenters...... but still run by a US-based company. What if that company was told by fascists to do bad things?Just something to think about.

@antifuchs Yup. And you gotta keep paying monthly or -foom- go your servers. There must be a massive organized migration happening right now in dot ru.I wonder what they'll replace AWS with though? Are they using any special Amazon-specific stuff? Can they just pull VM images and put them somewhere else?

@natecull @antifuchs There's lots of AWS specific stuff if you want to use it; but if you're just running VMs, not as much. Anyway, the Russians probably just weren't using AWS much, I'd expect most stuff on local providers like Yandex and I guess smaller ones.
