Wonder if people keen on 'sanctions on Russian oligarchs' know any of the history ... do they even know the name Khodorkovsky for example?

@waxwing I'm familiar with the general pattern in former Soviet republics: government "privatizes" industry, selling huge companies for pennies to cronies, then buying the companies back a few years later at inflated prices, only to privatize again. If you feel any particular olicharch is wrongly accused of that and doesn't deserve sanctions, let me know 🙂

@sjors The people who made out in the chaos of the 90s were mostly some combination of: clever/violent ruthless/entrepreneurial/had connections etc. They mostly weren't exactly 'nice people'. That's not the point here.I'm talking about the long history of direct conflict between *some* of these oligarchs and the state, including Putin in particular (e.g. Khodorkovsky was arrested and imprisoned by Putin for years). Are these sanctions against "Putin cronies"?
