In a recent appearance on the Fox Business Channel, retired US Army Colonel Douglas MacGregor told incredulous host Stuart Varney that Ukraine has little hope of defeating Russia on the battlefield, and the only reason that Ukrainian President Zelensky insists on continuing is because his NATO puppet-masters are demanding that the fight continue.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60zIcBwA2ZA

@TylerAbeoJordan Fascinating! Just to provide a contrasting view from where I am sitting and the media landscape which surrounds me (9 hours by car from Kiev).Russian troops are completely demoralized, having old soviest equipment that has not been taken care of. They don't know why they are there and were told it would be over in 2 days. Russians are defecting and deserting. Ukrainians are fighting for their homes and lives, and will make this a new Afghanistan for russia if (...)

@TylerAbeoJordan necessary. No values or disrespect intended, just thought it fun to compare stories based on the above, vs where I am sitting. Can add a personal anecdote that several people in my wifes office have packed their bags and are leaving for the US until this has settled. They are convinced of an imminent invasion and/or atomic bomb. I'm also seeing people emptying ATMs since they believe that the money will run out as well. Extremely fascinating to follow this, the (...)

>the media landscapeAnd what percentage of non-governmental (i.e. non-subsidised) media are there in your environment? I am curious because in my country the "liberals" are using the smoke and noise of war to stifle the last non-governmental newspaper. Could this one be a relic? Maybe other countries have already strangled them?

@h4890 I don't pretend to KNOW the truth, I do see the US media taking a side and given that they are owned by oligarchs that support the WEF and Davos bankster crowd, I pretty much believe the opposite of anything they say. It's rare to fine a video like this one where the guest talks outside the narrative they are obviously promoting. All that said, I'm in Tasmania and have no idea as to the reality on the ground personally.

@throwaway1 @TylerAbeoJordan I do not appreciate you calling me a liar when you have no proof or access to my mental states. Before I block you I will just leave you with a rhetorical question you can think about. Event X happens in location Y. Who do you trust? An actually onlooker, or someone in a country 10000 miles away? And now I'll proceed with the blocking.

@OscillatingAgama @TylerAbeoJordan I don't know I'm afraid. My advice is to exclude the extremes (I tend to disregard a lot of propaganda outlets like RT, Sputnik etc. which are to me obvious government tools, I also avoid heavily nationalist and marxist sources) and once you eliminated those, see what's similar and disimilar among the material of the rest. I can give you some swedish sources if you are interested, but since you do not speak the language, I think most likely you are (...)

@h4890 @OscillatingAgama Not sure if you're replying to me or?As an American living in Australia, I don't pay attention to Australian sources - so I don't know specifically.Generally speaking though, censorship itself is what informs me of the nature of animal. In war censorship between warring parties is natural and expected, but those not involved in the war, who still censor, informs of their lack of neutrality. And I'm seeing Russian censorship in many countries.

@TylerAbeoJordan @OscillatingAgama I was originally intending to ask O.A. but thank you anyway for your explanation. I think Elon Musk is brave to refuse to censor. What you say is also true and I thought about it today when I read somewhere someone raising that question. The political reply was that "no, we do not censor media, but RT & co are not media companies they are enemy operations". And also, rt.com is not censored in sweden and not in the baltics at the moment. I wonder (...)

In Lithuania, most retail chains have removed the Respublika newspaper from the shelves "in response to numerous requests from the people". This wording is absolutely disgusting, because in the Soviet Union all violence was carried out on behalf of the people and at the numerous requests of the people. The question of how the disappearance of a non-state-funded newspaper would affect society can be broken down into two (at least): whether it would make the press less free and what the effect of a free press on society would be. I believe the answer to the first question is probably yes, because ownership is the most unconditional guarantee of freedom. Why society needs a free press - there is a whole tradition of arguing why and I have so far taken their arguments as a given, but it would be interesting to find a detailed and substantiated view that a free press is harmful to society.

@OscillatingAgama @TylerAbeoJordan Interesting, but there is another aspect to consider here. First of all, did the government decree that this paper can no longer be solved? And if not, the retail chains are private enterprises and therefore they are within their right to decide what to sell and what not to sell. I'm looking at https://www.respublika.lt/ right now, and their web site is not censored, so I do not think that this is a good example _unless_ they disappeared from the (...)

@OscillatingAgama @TylerAbeoJordan stores as a direct consequence of a government law or decision. Then I agree with you that it is a step in the wrong direction. Looking at the lithuanian government however, I fully agree that they have taken a step towards becoming very authoritarian during corona. If you only knew (but perhaps you suspect) how many shouting matches with policemen, security, social justice warriors etc. I've had the last 2 years you might be surprised. I also (...)

@OscillatingAgama @TylerAbeoJordan remember that lrt uncritically seemed to adopt what ever the government decided. So I am worried in the long term. However I do hope the farmers party will come back strong in the next election, and my prediction is that at least one of the liberal parties will disappear due to them having contributed to a more authoritarian society.

@h4890 @OscillatingAgama The censorship I am referring too is due to at least two major Internet providers who handle the majority of Russia's input-output to the rest of the world have shut the door. So basically, they are censoring/cancelling the whole of Russian society - as if they have anything to do with this mess anyway. I agree with you about Musk - he's holding the door open for Russians to use the Internet, but they'll still have to get connected to Starlink and that's a long wait.

@TylerAbeoJordan @OscillatingAgama Hmm, I think that I can shed some light here. If they made that decision to cut off russia from the internet, I think it is counter productive and it would actually just play into Putins hands, because he wants nothing more than to cut russia off the internet so that no one can find any alternative news sources. But I do see they mention security. I can relate to that, because one of my customers regularly getting requests for peering from russian (...)

@TylerAbeoJordan @OscillatingAgama and chinese organizations and they say no to all of them due to the security risks involved. So I think in this case it is about the security and risk mgmt of the network providers and not about cutting russians off from information. But maybe I am being too charitable here. The above is anyway how my customer reasons when deciding not to peer with russian and chinese networks.
