       @Bajax the noise pattern is just off/on there's a random chance a pixel either gets turned white or keeps its original value thats why the first one got so blown out. i need to make it so it gets actually randomized to any value but tends toward its original one but first i needed to make it work for colour instead of grayscale so i did the first thing that came to mindi will try randomizing the rgb values instead of the value value when i get there though that could be cool,, like the way inginsub was doing dithering in templeos

       @Noided do you know about multiply? basically you can use multiplication of values times a number (generally by a number close to 1) to weight how much you apply your transformation. It'll help you keep your contrast.

       @Bajax i lost the contrast cause i didnt think about the fact that i was adding hues to the whites/greys/blacks that didnt exist to begin with so it kind of just looks like i put a semi-transparent noise filter over the image which is still a cool thing to do with code ig. might also just need to tighten the distribution for how likely it is to go far away from the original value. this one is just the value changing and it still has way to much black in the white
