I'd go for the 2nd most expensive one, aka the β¬159 Sony, but he's used to Sennheiser and as I'm told old people don't like change π

@GinaI would pick Sennheiser for their sound, I haven't tried these models though. But switched once away from Sennheiser to Sony pods to quickly switch back. Not bad, just not the sound I liked. Old people stuff I'm sure ;) ,π§

@Gina Not easy, the sony one has better frequency response while sennheiser has higher impedance that could make it more dynamic with the proper amp. If you know he's a sennheiser fan then I'd go for the safer one, as in with the 450BT maybe. But if it was for myself I'd probably consider the Sony more so.

@Gina I've had the Sennheiser PXC-550 II for a little over a year now and overall I'm quite happy.I bought them second-hand but rarely used.Pros:- Battery life- Easily paired with my phone as well as another device at the same timeQuirks:- Voice Commands are too loud (screams into your ears, when battery is low or device disconnects...had that with my previous headphones too, so perhaps I'm sensitive and that's good for old people)- No On/Off button (can only turn off by folding)

@Gina Is he going to use the headset while walking? If yes, I would avoid the Sennheiser HD45..., as they make an awful noise at each step. At least that's what happened to me.

@Gina Pros:- The cable that comes with them is nice and I often switch between cabled and wireless- Noise-cancelling works well and the surround-mode toggle via double tap works fantasticQuirks:- When in Bluetooth-Mode I can hear the BT module slightly cheep, when I haven't yet turned on my music and I'm in a quiet environment (I'm for sure more sensitive than others and once you turn BT off with the dedicated switch)- Noice-cancelling has three stages (off-on-ON) but I do not notice a diff

@Gina Also sound is great (I'm no audiophile but I like hip hop with nice bassy beats and folk and indie with some highs and they seem to cover the spectrum well) πThey also fit very comfortably for hours and can be used without cable and bluetooth, to calm down in a loud environment (perfect for afternoon naps in a shared apartment :blobfoxsleep: )

@totoroot Important to note is that my dad listens to music from his laptop. Do you know of any issues pairing with a laptop? Should be fine right?

@Gina π Ok, then. Except for this issue, I've found the headset very comfortable and with a very good sound.

@Gina No issues with my MacBook Pro from work and a few other notebooks running Linux besides Bluetooth being a finicky protocol, but that is certainly not the headphones' fault :)

@GinaUse a cable, Bluetooth audio has limited bandwidth so it kills some frequencies. So I'd say make sure the model has both options. Also I prefer Sennheiser, but Sony is okay. Also note that over ears models are hot in summer.@totoroot

@Gina I'm quite happy with my PXC 550-II. Sound quality is not audiophile, but pretty good. Noise cancelling works pretty well. Pairing with Linux Mint and Android is almost flawless. I only have issues when paired to two devices at the same time, as it will constantly switch to the device that produces sound. Also I find it annoying as a headset as it seems to do the opposite of noise cancelling when the mic is used in headset mode. In addition to BT you can also connect it via USB or analogue.

@Gina Each company has their flavor of sound they consider best. So it is safer to stay with the company/brand he is used to.

@Gina I have the HD 450BTN and I strongly vote against it for the following reasons:1. The spring is very strong and it constantly squeezes your ears which gets painful especially when you have glass handles behind your ears2. Sennheizer is utter garbage when it comes to device support. They very quickly consider devices as EOL and stop supporting it through their apps. For instance I cannot reduce the volume lower than shouting levels just because they stopped supporting it in their appπππΌ

π§΅ππΌ@Gina 3. Battery life is pretty low, i have to charge it twice a week and it takes some hours for it to charge4. When it is approaching the end of battery, instead of a subtle notice, it constantly beep into your ears. It is awful when you are on a phone call5. Terrible customer support. I only managed to get some response by calling them and staying more than half an hour in a queue.6. Their AUX cable only transfer the outbound audio, so your phone mic will be used if AUX is connected
