       #Ukraine is 44m to Russia's 144m. There is no way to control that large of a population if you're not that big. This doesn't make any sense. Why didn't they just try to expand their own borders to include the Donbas? Isn't that what they did with Crimea?

       @wjmaggos Agree, this is up there with USA invading México, in both cases it is an addition of a bunch of poorer people to load up the social benefits systems.

       @Borisdpythonwhy can't you see this is propaganda? serious shit is going on and they've got you believing people are picking sides based on who "won" a swim meet. assholes want you to hate Biden so that you'll support them instead, and now they don't care if that means using your emotional reaction to a war.a reasonable view is to acknowledge both sides are shady but Russia has more immediate concerns about security here than we do. and what would secure the best outcome for all long-term?

       @wjmaggos In fact, the people of Crimea voted and seceded from Ukraine by a majority vote because there was a coup in 2014 and the accession to Russia was relatively peaceful.  It is more complicated with Donbas - the Ukrainian authorities  "sold" these territories to the US and NATO for military bases, but the population still voted for autonomy, and since then, the Ukrainian authorities have been carrying out a systematic genocide of the inhabitants of the DNR and LNR.
