like, shit. honestly fedi is as bad as twitter was. i get zero traction talking about my writing or showing off software projects i've been working on. all people are interested in anymore is political garbage and i'm now realizing that the only use i still really get out of fedi is having a place to vent/sometimes commiserate about things i can't talk to my partner about. especially now that i have much better sources of news than the grapevine. and that's just patheticthere's a total of maybe three or four people i actually miss every time i leave for a while. which sucks i guess, but, fuck it. a friend is somebody i would move heaven and earth for. so anyone who can't be bothered to spend five seconds tracking down my email address isn't worth trying to be friends with anyway

maybe i'll drop in occasionally to share something i've been working on and see if anything's changed. maybe not, idk. but i think i'm pretty much done with social media, at least until i learn german well enough to be able to cut out the schizo anglophone clown brigade. as it is this is waste of precious time that would be better spent just cuddling with the one i love, and what benefit i get out of being able to vent freely is not worth the headache of being intermittently bombarded by screeching retardsi think part of what changed is pleroma used to have better filtering controls. it used to be possible to just ignore all notifications from people you don't have some kind of connection with. but they removed that so it's now all garbage, all the time. and it really sucks

@velartrill What did pleroma used to have? I think you can mute entire instances now as well as accounts, you can also choose to just see posts from those you follow which is a filter at the top of the timeline with the sieve. Although having trouble seeing that for notifications so I might bring that up.

there are so many sad-sack losers out there who have such pathological personalities that their only source of gratification is screeching like rabid banshees at everyone who shows up on the known-network page, hoping desperately for some kind of attention no matter how negative (and when they don't get it, going off and cranking their hogs to videos of women getting the shit beat out of them on pornhub, ofc). being able to live in blissful ignorance of these creatures and their dolorous existence was part of what made pleroma so nice, and that's gone now

also the sort of, sphere of online creatives that i used to call my come on the internet has been completely suborned. those people all have brainworms now, to the point where if i tried to be part of that community again, even if i just nodded and smiled whenever they went on psychotic political rants, i'd have to endure them constantly saying horrible things about me and people i care about, all of my (fiction!) writing would be policed for indicators of thought-crime and i'd be cancelled just for not constantly spewing the proper shibboleths ("WHY AREN'T THERE ANY LEGLESS BLACK AUTISTIC ASEXUAL MAP TRANSGENDER LESBIAN MUSLIM PALADINS YOU FUCKING BIGOT"). some of this was already going on when i dropped that crowd but it has become exponentially worsebut i've never been able to find a replacement for that community i lost. there's no equivalent, certainly not among the boorish, unimaginative rightists i glumly tolerate bc they won't harass me off the internet for refusing to worship blacks, nor among the freethinkers i can actually have real conversations about complex topics with. there's nowhere for people like me to discuss worldbuilding, drawing, storytelling, conlanging, plotting, etc anymore; nowhere to get and give feedback on each others' work and ideas; nowhere to go to get new projects off the ground.people clown on tumblr a lot but at its best it was a place where depressed creatives helped bring life to each others' work and get each other through the hard times. i think my entire abusive love affair with social media has been in the hope of finding something like that again. i realize now it won't happen.

I always heard Germany had lots of sociable programmers and hackers, chaos computer club and the like. You would need to be fluent in German though...
