Listening to all the requirements and architecture stuff at work inside of the automobile industry.I feel that removes 100% of the joy of software development. It is because you specify everything to the death and there is no space for creativity left for the software development. As funny as it sounds, this makes the management part a much more creative work compared to the software development in this environment.

@jeena you just pinpointed the biggest fault of the whole industry. Since people buy a specified function, in instead of developing it themselves, this is what we end up with. The only way to fix it is to either by a ready made platform, eg Android Automotive, or in-house the development. The first is shitty from a privacy and control perspective. The other one is a very hard transformation of the car making companies. Option #3, you can sit around and wait to be disrupted...

@jeena I also believe that there is a huge opportunity for a non-Google platform offering. But it has to happen now, and it has to be mature enough to avoid the requirements checkbox exercise. It needs a proper developer experience for building contents, that just works.

@jeena who to build such an offer? Not sure. The whole industry is suffering from a severe not-invented-here syndrome, combined with trying to differentiate on the wrong level in the stack, and an unhealthy relationship with the existing supplier ecosystem.

@e8johan We kind of had a moment there with GENIVI and https://pelux.io/ but dropped the ball very early and now it's gone.

@jeena yeah, we gave it a shot, but failed. We dropped the ball, but I also thing GENIVI was setup wrong. It was more of a sales platform than a FOSS project. Too much project management and politics, too little coding and collaboration.
