okay apparently I have to update to Ubuntu 21.10 so I can have DNS on arbitrary ports for the resolver to work so that's a thing apparently?

@aurynn Presumably you run your own server, right? Slightly off-topic to the thread, but are you able to recommend any cheap but still decent hosts? More details of what I'm after are here:https://mastodon.technology/@adz/107807788536615840

@adz I run Cloud Island, yeah, but I'm using a fairly advanced cloud deployment for it via catalystcloud.nz. Probably not suitable for your needs 😞

@aurynn Thanks. I just looked them up for comparison and they've at least sensible prices. But probably not my thing.

@adz depending on the size of VM you need, vultr might work for you?

@aurynn I'm looking them up. They seem reasonable.

@adz @aurynn I used Vultr for a while as it was one of the few options with Australian DCs at the time. If you do (for latency reasons or whatever) want an Australian based host, they're ok - but as late as last year they didn't offer some services at the Sydney DC, notably separate block storage independent of a VM which you might find important if you want a large amount of data but not a lot of ram or cpu.
