I would agree with this EXCEPT... @Onionkink ... go to your lumberyard and slap a tape measure on a 2x4.Measure it and get back with me.

@GluedToTheScreen @Onionkink Isn't that caused more by greedy lumber jews then the measurement system used? You can get real 2x4's but you have to specify that you want full dimensional lumber.

@nameredacted @GluedToTheScreen @Onionkink I have always been told it's dimensionally accurate when cut but it dries to about 1.5-1.75 inches when dried

@DocHolliday @GluedToTheScreen @Onionkink It is I forgot the you have to ask for rough cut to get actual size lumber, but they do cut it shorter go get more boards it isn't just because shrinking.

@Onionkink As an engineer I fully appreciate the ease of unit conversions in SI. But Customary/English units are, as the image argues, built around more human points of reference. Maybe if I was raised somewhere where SI units where the norm I'd grasp them as I do English, but here I am, stuck doing the math and cursing other engineers who switch between SI and Standard bolts on stuff I work on.

@Onionkink >doing math>multiply by 10sure hope my stride length is the same as Marcus AgrippaThe entire second half of that is just incoherent dribble to pad out words and make it look smarter

@Onionkink That's not the only reason. Motion physics equations are simpler in standard than in metric. That's because our base-10 number system actually starts with a base-12 set of numbers that only appears at the beginning, but since time is evenly divisible by twelve and our length system is also evenly divisible by twelve, the math is very simple.
