why does mozilla have a special software license and not just use MIT or Apache or GPL? what about those aren't sufficient? what about the MPL is special/different?

@sneak Incompatibility. Mozilla needs to be edgy, you know. Without MPL we would have no CDDL so we would have no ZFS drama.

@sneak MPL is actually an interesting license in its own right.Basically, the GPL requires any project which incorporates GPL code to *only incorporate GPL code*. Thus, not only is the GPL code copyleft, but *all code* which links it must be, as well.The MPL is a bit different: if you link to MPL-ed code, you're obligated to publish your fork of the MPL-ed code under basically the same rules as the GPL. But, the *rest* of the code need not be under the MPL.It's an interesting balance.

Public domain doesn't exist in many countries and thus your program is still proprietary in them.Also copyright laws differ from country to country which makes it a legal mess, even if you don't sue anyone others would do it easily.
