@DonjanusgjrdrmPolitically (especially locally) marijuana CAN be exploited to peel away older votes in purple areas where numbers are tight.But for that they need to get a PURPLE state GOP opponent to ADVOCATE for legalization.Trump came out in favor of legalized medical use, but then upheld a federal ban that conflicts with some state laws.But, not a key issue, so he didn't take the "advocacy" bait. He just left the status quo - one he didn't create - alone. AKA - PICK YOUR BATTLES.

Cheapest date, one toke I'm over the line.I ate a piece of chocolate cake (not my recipe) in China that I didn't know had in it oil infused with hash and skunk weed.As it was hitting me I made my way (barely, slowly) to a sofa in Ronnie's Aussie bar, and stayed there, paralyzed for six hours. Couldn't pass out, couldn't move, couldn't think clearly or even reach for my water. Total hell.F*** weed, not my laughin' place.

@Debradelai @StevenDouglas I told him to imagine a target of where he'd like to be at the end of his life.It's long way to the target. If your aim is off a little when you are close to the target, you still end up relatively close, but if you're a long way off and your aim is off, you won't be anywhere near the target when you get there.His mother told me a short while later that he said nobody had really ever talked about it like that with him.

I'd rather people not destroy their Ives with drugs, but I'm not telling them what to do.I counseled a single-mom nephew when he was about 14. I told him that they'll be plenty of time for that stuff when he's older.It's important not to screw up your life when you're young.

@Debradelai @StevenDouglas There weren't any signs of drug use, but I just wanted to try to be a positive influence. I didn't want to be preachy, so I mentioned it just the once.I don't see this as anti-Libertarian. I think children need guidance. If you're a 50-year-old still getting high all the time and bagging groceries, you may have mis-aimed a little.

@StevenDouglas ban cigarettes and legalize cannabis. If we are talking about what Trump wants to do versus you and me I really don't care either. Changing the popular culture is unpopular. Mixed messages are a fact of nature. As a therapist I will never tell a client it's a good idea to drink alcohol or take recreation drugs. Will I change what they choose to do. Absolutely NOT. Most of the time they are not interested in my opinion on anything and just want to complain.

@Donjanusgjrdrm Correction: Trump didn't explicitly "uphold" the federal ban - he just didn't touch it. Left it where it was. So "upheld" only by omission, by doing nothing. And children fully got the message when I was growing up, as it was mismanaged/goofy-dangled as "forbidden fruit" (good or bad from whoever's perspective). Because I didn't want it, it was offered to me free CONSTANTLY. Want to drink for free? "Just Say No."All on the house, SOMEONE will pour it down your throat.

That was it for marijuhana etc for me.Alcohol was a compaignon in those days, too high for a female like me. But I switched from politics to soul-seeking and even came to India, where I pretty much dropped alcohol (its not in the culture and you can get blind from indian alcohol).And I love Trump for completely dropping alcohol after the death of his brother.

Yapping got me thinking about weed. For most of my rock/metal classmates, who tend conservative, pot/weed was just part of the culture - many family members, two generations, included. According to Pew, only the 75+ (Reefer Madness) age crowd shows a majority (53/32/12) opposition.I always LOATHED the smell of pot and hated the "high" (always wanted my mind BACK), so I avoided it.But I'm already mellow. All that to say, my position on the ever-politicized marijuana front is ambivalence, as to me THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, or delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, the predominant active ingredient in marijuana) belongs somewhere between caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.Prohibition: not happening, that's reality. @Debradelai Then let me clarify, because they are FAR from equivalent. NOT "no worse than".Caffeine is the LOW end of a spectrum of a substance that is not controlled at all. Nicotine is not all that mind-altering/judgment impairing - but is still controlled. Alcohol is both mind-altering and judgment-impairing, is on the high end. THC isn't equivalent to any of these but is somewhere on that spectrum - closer to alcohol, due to its psychotropic and judgment impairing effects.

Don't even follow it beyond casual glances here and there.I do fantasize about all Russian tanks near the Ukraine suddenly blowing up and all Russian naval vessels suddenly sinking - all without explanation. But that's just the little boy in me who also wishes he had a nice bucket of real caramel in the kitchen, to go with my nougat, peanuts and chocolate for a homemade no-bake Snickers casserole.
