Should we start suing web hosting companies, when they don’t patch their servers and as a result the websites get compromised and used for malware operations, which then creates a bad reputation for my domains? #infosec

@TheAntichrist But don’t we have to find a way to make it better? Sometimes it feels to me as if most of the Internet is just rotten and used for malicious activity - How can we make it better?

@seb Unfortunately, it's probably cheaper just to avoid web hosting companies in the first place.

@seb It is, in part, an issue of how the internet works in and of itself. It's annoying to blame "muh capitalism" for everything, but the decisions that lead to these issues are almost universally caused by a profit-first mentality. Rarely it might be negligence or an oversight, but I've seen more of the former than the latter. This kind of stuff does not happen as often in areas where profit-first is NOT the dominant mentality, like certain kinds of military products, intelligence products or critical infrastructures.Moving over to a hosting cooperative would probably be a good start.
