i honestly hate life. i go to church events not really expecting much. but just once can i please have one of those "enlightening experiences" i hear so much about? im so sick of never getting anything. like i struggle constantly with this stuff and just once i need a little something like come on

@Chance I can tell you that I struggled with this for years. Some people seem to have a sudden spotlight of God's presence in their lives and I envied them immensely. I can also tell you that for most people God's grace is a sunrise. You can't tell that it's getting lighter moment by moment but when you reflect on how it was before you know it's lighter. It feels like you're in an eternal twilight until you remember the actual darkness, and that gives you the strength to push forward. My whole life has now been illuminated and changed by His glory and it was worth the wait.

@TinyFern i used to ask God for specific stuff. anymore i just ask him to give me what he wants me to have so i can get to heaven. ive really thrown it all out to him like im literally just asking him to give him what i need to do what he wants.

@Chance Yeah I did that continuously from about age 15-28 (I.e now). I would say that things started looking up when I was about 23 and made massive personal changes and it's all been a gradual slope upwards since then. Everything that I considered part of my identity, my goals, my approach, how I viewed the world, has all changed quite profoundly. I look back now and if God gave me then what I have now I would have f*cked it up entirely. Pray for wisdom and maturity so that you will be ready for God's gifts sooner. Trust that He knows you better than you know yourself.

I am a lapsed Catholic and started praying again after 2 decades of giving no effort only because some of my frens like @TheVeryLutheranHousewife and others would ask for prayers on occasion. Figured "Can't hurt." So I brushed up on the Lord's Prayer and got down on my knees. After a handful of times it really started to feel really nice reconnecting with God. Things are looking up :pepe_happy:
