@cowanon this is GNOME Music we are talking about. This supposedly music player doesn't support playing files except those in $HOME/Music. I shit you not!Got files on a separate drive in /mnt/music! FUCK YOU!

@MischievousTomato name checks out :comfyxd: I dunno. Maybe because I love changing music volumes in every program individually. Weird thing to ask, I know.

@MischievousTomato this is the reason I still use Winamps. It probably has more features than the entire GNOME combined. And allows controlling volume as a bonus!

@MischievousTomato @newt changing volume globally doesn't work for all use cases. If you are, for instance, on a call while listening to music, it might be worth it to individually lower the music player volume so you can listen to the other people.

@MischievousTomato Ok fair. But also what if your keyboard doesn't have fn keys, or the keyboard stops working?More like niche/backup issues but honestly a fucking volume slider is not that hard.

@MischievousTomato@bae.st @newt@stereophonic.space you're not reading what I'm saying. My phone has a volume slider for each app because it allows you to play multiple sources at once

@jessica @MischievousTomato effectively so does gnome via pulseaudio. The problem is, GNOME UI doesn’t expose individual sliders, last I checked. In KDE on the other hand, you can adjust settings for each app individually, should you choose to do so. In addition to the global volume control.

@newt@stereophonic.space @MischievousTomato@bae.st yeah it should be exposed easily. At least with my phone it has the volume floating panel that you could access at all times

@MischievousTomato@bae.st @newt@stereophonic.space I mean, there should at least be some way to control individual app volume using the floating panel at least.

@MischievousTomato @jessica typical gnome lol  In the end, in order to change the volume I’d have to make at least two or three clicks in GNOME Music vs just one in normal software. Talking about ergonomics here. And before you say anything about function keys, my keyboard doesn’t have them.

@newt@stereophonic.space @MischievousTomato@bae.st you can't change specific app volume with function keys though. if the app had a volume slider built in you could just use ctrl shift up down or something like that

@MischievousTomato @jessica or use better software. Which I do.I mean seriously, I use Winamp. On Linux. Because even in 2022 Linux people couldn’t muster making a decent audio player somehow :akko_shrug:

@MischievousTomato@bae.st @newt@stereophonic.space the function keys are only on laptops that's not compatible with all keyboards. something like an IBM model M doesn't have any of those keys.

@newt@stereophonic.space Why would I do that. Gnome shit itself every day since people started to draft Gnome 3. 😃 Hell even KDE 4 turned out to be nice and usable. But Gnome 3 is just like something out of Apple factory.

@olinKije ok. You probably should now open the link to this ticket, I posted it earlier in this thread. There's a discussion there on whether a volume control should be added to a music player. And there is also a link to an earlier ticket on the same subject.Imagine, several grown men discuss if a volume control slider is required in a music player for several days to several weeks
