@su I see now, after years of eschewing your Canadian provenance, that you are planning to "take back your country"? Amazing.

@JimmyMarr the best thing of all, have kids very young, that way you have a lot of time with them, unlike me where they thought my dad was my grandpa all the time! i fixed that.

@su Yes, and that primal urge that caused you to "fix that" is what Nietzsche called "The Will to Power", and it reigns supreme over and beyond the shitty half-realm of good and evil.

@JimmyMarr ive hatched a plan to do something completely selfish. im going to sit on my back deck in spring/summer with all my plants, the birds and the wild honeysuckle and Nietzsche to see what you're going on about all the time. by then, my brain wont be oatmeal from working so much but ill have questions so be ready

@su You might not want to start with Zarathustra. In fact you might prefer to start with "Nietzsche: Prophet of Nazism, The Cult of the Unbermensch" by Amir Taha. It'll provide you with a contextual overview before you jump straight into the meat of Nietzsche, which will likely require the gradual build-up of an acquired taste.

@su That book is jammed with quotations from a variety of Nietzsche's books, so if and when one of them strikes your fancy, follow it up be reading the work referenced to expand the context.

@su Don't just read the entire reference book. Start from the quotation that interested you initially and read backwards and forwards from that quotation to see how it fits into the general theme of the book. If that doesn't satisfy you, find another reference in Taha and repeat the process with another of Nietzsche's books. Reading Nietzsche sequentially is tedious and offers little advantage. He's disorganized. His books are like reading a series of Linder's slices and trying to figure out wtf

@su If we're going to be talking about this stuff and posting quotations, we may want to use VNNForum. It's difficult to copy/paste much in Mastadon chat format. Here's one that fits: "Man, elevating himself to the rank of the Titans, acquires his culture by his own efforts, and compels the gods to unite with him, because in his self-sufficient wisdom he has their existence and their limits in his hand." - Prometheus/Satoshi, Fire/manmade scarcity. This will not go unpunished.

@JimmyMarr ok, that makes sense. there's not much room here. what you quoted there is how i was taught to live life, or maybe it just is, I don't know"Hier sitz' ich, forme MenschenNach meinem Bilde,Ein Geschlecht, das mir gleich sei,Zu leiden, zu weinen,Zu geniessen und zu freuen sich,Und dein nicht zu achten,Wie ich!" Goethe! my bedtime stories lol im not even kidding. this just made my whole day, im so excited.

@harrison_partch @su "To go into foul water when it is the water of truth, and not disclaim cold frogs and hot toads?"Probably he's alluding to the quest to pass beyond the knee-jerk reactions to notions of good and evil in the pursuit of truth.

@harrison_partch @su “Three metamorphoses of the spirit do I designate to you: how the spirit becometh a camel, the camel a lion, and the lion at last a child."He was at least correct with respect to the last stage of his own life.
