@YoungBlood Well, that just brought me to tears. She sounds just like my grandma.. the only grandparent I ever met, who died almost 30 years ago. Thank you, because her accent brought back warm memories. And she was too nice to Whoopi.

@wziminer @YoungBlood @wziminer She was too nice to Whoopie,I agree. But she knows hatred and what it feels like and what people went through first hand.With her,shes had it with hatred.She has the most beautiful heart and soul.❤️

@Linnie @wziminer @YoungBlood @Linnie I remember being a little girl.We lived in Miami.My parents were friends with a sweet woman.One day,I saw numbers tattooed on her arm and asked her why she had them.As she explained in words Id understand,tears flowed,as I tried to wipe those terrible numbers off her arm.She wrapped her arms around me,held me against her and said she was ok,its ok.."We adopted each other that day.Grandmother/grand daughter. ☺️ ❤️

@Dawnz @Linnie @wziminer @YoungBlood We're the last generation that knew holocaust survivors. Mr. Piekarski was the local upholsterer who had a little storefront in Bradley Beach, NJ. My mother made sure to explain the story of his tattoos to us.

@Dawnz What a lovely and touching memory!You have a heart of gold, my dear.Here in Israel such stories are, of course, familiar to virtually everybody.My grandmother was also a Holocaust survivor.She grew up in Bukowina (then Romania, now Ukraine). @Zemeliko Thank you for sharing dear Z. In all my 61 years, I have never personally seen those tattoos. My husband was a flight attendant back in the early 70’s. He flew international with TWA. He saw many a tattoo from Holocaust survivors in his flights to and from Europe. To this day he claims it was one of the most chilling things he has ever seen. ❤️

@Joycevor I never thought of it that way, Joycevor. I’m 61 and my dad was a WWII vet. He was in the war when it ended. He made sure to tell us kids about the one camp he helped liberate. He said they made the German people come help bury the people. I wish I asked more questions, as he wouldn’t say much. But THAT part of the war haunted him-forever! THAT, I know.

@Linnie I am reading a Holocaust memoir so I’ve been thinking about the cost of freedom. The book is about an Austrian Jewish family in Vienna. Everyone flees save for one branch of the family. A letter sent in the 30s to America asking for help in emigrating somehow ends up in the hands of a stranger (the female author). The author contacts the family who agree to work with her to unravel their history. I see a very MINOR parallel to all of the folks fleeing to FL from the northern cities.
