This just happened; I was on my bike to the store quickly but at the traffic lights I saw an older man falling weirdly with his bike. I rushed to him as did another guy who was driving by and we helped him up. I wanted to call an ambulance but he said he was alright and thankful. After a while the other guy and me got on our bikes again and a little while later he collapsed again! This time there where other people around luckily and they did call an ambulance in the end.. Poor guy!

I feel a bit crappy since I didn't call the ambulance... I did had my phone ready in my hand and dailed the number but he kept saying he was alright and he needed to "walk to off" 🤔 Learned something for next time, not sure just stay

@stux That's a good idea! I had something similar happen to me back in 2012. The highway was icy and I saw a guy skid on the ice and hit a side rail. I called to him and asked if he was OK, but I called 911 anyway and they checked on him. He only had minor injuries, but I'm glad that I didn't just drive away, just in case.

@stux Don't know where you are, but it's possible the old man couldn't afford the ambulance or emergency room. Those can be very expensive, and he could have been saddled with a cost he didn't want and maybe he didn't even need it. Maybe he just needed a rest, or some water or a bit of food.

@stux My friend fell off the bike, a couple of seconds were lost only. People asked, but he said that he is perfectly fine. But a bit later he still decided to call the ambulance. He took his phone but he could not read any of the numbers on the screen. He pushed the buttons by remembering their relative position. When he was asked, where he was, he could not read the streetsigns at all. Only later he started to get into shocking. Fortunately, he completely recovered....

@stux Sometimes it's a difficult call. If someone is unconscious, or if the man you saw had been unable to stand, it's easy to call. But if the person is conscious and says they don't want you to call, it's more difficult to decide. You could hang around, but that will only work for a bit. Anyway, he got help the second (conclusive) time, and you are now mentally prepared if anything like that happens again. Don't beat yourself up about it. Signed, Been There
