@celia was recently asking about managing content, specifically images with Static Sites. Here's how I do it:https://kevq.uk/how-i-manage-jekyll-content

@kev wow, this looks pretty complicated to me, I just did a bash script :blobcatderpy: (shameless plug incoming)https://joelchrono12.ml/blog/add-images-to-markdown-files-(for-jekyll)/It looks pretty nice tho. But it looks like you have to have your pics already in the assets folder, which I managed to circumvent :P

@joel it’s really not complicated. Takes all of 5 mins to setup and once it’s done, I don’t have to run a script to anything. It’s transparent.

@kev @celia With Hugo, shortcodes permit to do fancy things with image too.https://blog.zedas.fr/posts/hugo-shortcode-picture-exif/I've shared them on GitHub recently.

@kev @celia Wow quite well says it all. However just want to point out that you have the markdown backwards for referencing an image. It should be alt text first and then the path/filename. The first 3 code blocks under "Jekyll Includes" heading and then the two code blocks under the heading "But what about lazy loading and classes?".

@kev @celia Just a question, don't you find that having an include for images slows down the Jekyll build process substantially?

@adamsdesk @kev @celia that might be the reason his build times take so long xd...If an autotyper is already being used why not type the whole HTML instead :blobcatderpy: That's what I am about to change in my method since I can :blobcatderpy:

@joel @kev @celia Yeah an automation or macro would be more effective to me. Something like AutoKey would solve this. Mmm may change my own process.

@adamsdesk @kev @celia For me the main problem wasn't adding the text, but moving it to the assets folder and renaming it properly, which is what my script did, and it also echoes the markup needed to add the image to the markdown file so yey :blobcatderpy:

@joel @kev @celia I read about that. Not a big deal to me but I can see how that can be a hassle.

@adamsdesk @kev @celia yeah, especially when I take screenshots from my phone, I have to move them from my screenshots folder to my syncthing folder (I don't wanna move the whole screenshots folder to synthing) and from there to my assets folder. I can now at least make that step easier :blobcatderpy:

@adamsdesk @celia I’ve been using this process for the last month or so, so don’t have it on a lot of posts yet. So far it hasn’t though. That’s an interesting point though - I’ll keep an eye on that.

@kev @celia I must admit, your article had me speechless that the popular static frameworks haven’t had this as a solved problem already

@kev Cheers mate. :DI find all of this to be such a huge hassle. No amount of automation takes away the complexity. I think I'll be sticking with WP for now.

@celia yeah, nothing will come close to something like WP, I don't think.Ultimately, Markdown just doesn't handle images well. And don't get me started on tables... 🙂
