Is there a tradition of aptronyms for fictional characters in English literature? I thought Mark Evans was making it up in Bleak Expectations but right now I'm in an Agatha Christie story with an Inspector Badgworthy.

@spun_off yes! English names (like many names) in the past were tied to professions or personal qualities. This practice remains in English in nicknames and fiction but not often in daily practice.
