@kev Basically, just to add, you buy a receipt that's basically a note in a cabinet saying you own the 5th picture in aisle 3 but you never know if the museum will just take that picture down, or replace it with something else, just because they feel like it.

Selling art pieces at ridiculous prices is early adopters stage. Many people would use NFT based digital IDs and documents for sake of not losing them. Imagine showing a QR code when a policeman stop you rather than carrying a physical card which can get lost.NFT is a system with great potential, but this early stage is messy and ugly as it usually is with almost every new technology.@kev

@murtezayesil your argument is inherently flawed. To have the QR code you still need something physical; be it a phone or a piece of paper. Also, QR codes can easily manipulated.

I know you need something physical to show the wallet address in some way, even if it is a tattoo. My point was the convenience it would bring. But after watching the documentary linked by @person, I understand that such convenience (everything attached to an easy to show to a police man viewed via URI or QR code) is a privacy nightmare.@kev 1/2

I learned anyone can give anyone else a token which can be anything from a ridiculous ape image to malware. Also the issue with attaching sensitive documents such as driving license or some sort of certificate of land ownership reveal will reveal even the most private information since anyone can view anyone else's tokens, anytime.Thanks again to @person for sharing the documentary. @kev I will say that I can see an evolution of NFTs that moves past the stage it’s on into something that has actual value. I am literally pulling this out of my head but something like an NFT shows ownership in a online community and only those that have it have a say. It’s not a great example but the technology of it can go past obnoxious monkey pictures.

@kev There will be some legitimate use cases for NFTs eventually with things like patent and copyrighting.It's certainly a more robust method of attribution than using the waybackmachine to find the oldest reddit post bearing mention of something creative or useful which has been the gold standard for some time now.I guess for now though we can just enjoy the hilarity of moronic celebrities paying absurd sums of money for clip art.

@kev It's even worse, it's a Bigger Fool scheme, from the same category as pyramid schemes and Ponzi schemes. Those who join in early cash out the most.The art is not what matters to those people. It's the status of being in a club of "privileged" status, and the anticipation of "multiplying" your money. The art is ancillary. In fact, a lot of NFT "projects" manage to keep up the hype through vague promises, some as ridiculous as a co-owned casino.
