@Moon yeah I'm not sure what a lot of people mean when they see it either. in my limited experience some anarchists want to get rid of policing in favor of some sort of community neighborhood watch or militia which seems like a bad idea. others want to replace some police responsibilities with other agencies which i think makes sense because American police are treated as a one size fits all solution for a huge variety of problems which they often aren't equipped to deal with

@Moon @animeirl That was in Seattle CHOP/CHAZ and they were just cheap ARs. The fun part was a pimp with a record label was handling them out of a trunk and no one cared, but normally the city is super pro gun control. They also took over a police station in the same area.

@thendrix @Moon @animeirl yes, the CHAZ/CHOP made its own police, which included a <18 year old boy who was caught on audio bragging as he finished off (murdered) the joyrider who somehow survived the car crash and barrage of bullets.It's amazing how the "defund the police" politicians just hired armed private security at taxpayer expense.Also I'd be curious how many "defund the police" advocates would also advocate defunding federal law enforcement (FBI, etc). I suspect it would be a low percentage, and that most would regard the feds more pure.

@Moon my personal thought on the matter is that american police are police are spread over too many domains and some of their responsibilities should be handed off to other agencies which would technically result in defunding the police but in practice give them more funding to do what they're actually good at. like the same people who respond to domestics shouldn't be giving out traffic tickets as an example

@union @Moon for the most part, we don't have that. We have a handful of partially defunded and mostly refunded departments among the 20,000ish towns and cities in the country where police funding was unaffected by the clown show.I don't believe a single department was 100% defunded.

@animeirl wasn't that long ago that big cities were actually slashing police budgets under the banner of "defund the police," so clearly this is not just some niche thing. in seattle where i lived the police department was being basically destroyed, pigs wound up so miserable after becoming the city scapegoat they were quitting in droves; idk if that's still ongoing. of course Defund is not a *popular* idea but that's irrelevant, the US is not democratic and ordinary people have little to no say in these matters; what matters is what the bouge wantand i originally figured the bouge probably did want to abolish the police, that they want a glorious libertarian society where you either pay through the nose for private security or live in daily terror of being axemurdered by roaming rape-gangs, particularly because then getting rid of e.g. pesky labor organizers would become trivial. so as usual the woke vanguard is just there to terrorize people into accepting whatever the bouge want for society.but then again the democrats started walking the Defund stuff back after biden won so maybe it was just something to use to get the antifa/blm crowd excited, so they'd go out and set things on fire, and what we're seeing now is just the leftover ideological detritus. it certainly does seem like that particular aspect of their movement has lost a lot of steam in the last year or two.

@velartrill The claim that cities are defunding police is vastly overstated. I know Seattle and Portland both made "cuts" but they were incredibly minor, the 20-21 budgets in both cities were slightly lower than the 19-20 budgets but still the 2nd highest ever in the history of both forces and this year's budget is set to increase again.Meanwhile, in Portland, at least, the department continues to sit with around with close to 100, fully funded, positions left vacant. I've spoken to, or read accounts from, multiple qualified applicants who were either denied for nonsensical reasons or were left waiting for a response for so long (several months) they took a job in another city.Policing problem, at least on the west coast is less about token and quickly reversed defunding and more department corruption and incredibly lazy prosecutors who are trying to look progressive by not doing their jobs

@animeirl i can't speak to the other cities but in seattle there was an attempt to quite literally cut the police budget in half and it only failed because Durkan ("Mayor Cop" as she is known) vetoed it. whether or not the measure was popular in the sense of a majority of people approving of it, the media certainly wanted us to believe it was The Will of the People® and we were supposed to be outraged!!!11 when Durkan vetoed the bill. antifa certainly was.police morale is also at a nadir in many big cities, in part thanks to the Soros prosecutor problem you mention. incidentally, the issue has nothing to do with "laziness," these same prosecutors very energetically pursue political offenses. in fact, they'll go to borderline illegal ends to try and e.g. lock up whites who have the gall to defend themselves against blacks or other officially sacrosanct populations. they are political operatives pursuing an agenda.
