https://andregarzia.com/2022/01/gemini-is-a-little-gem.html> it is […] impossible for a single human being to hold all the specifications for the Web in their head.> Gemini, on the other hand, is dead simple. A developer can keep all of Gemini Protocol and Gemtext markup in their head. It is easy to implement and understand.I have not yet met the mythical developer that can keep all of TLS entirely in their head.Gemini works – but its central message is a false promise, of simplicity.A lie.Like Urbit.Unlike Plan 9.

@bootie_fringe I've never read the TLS spec. There is Bear SSL which seems to prove it can be done compactly at least. There was a time I could remember most of the usable HTML (before they added tone of extra tags) and a minorly functional amount of HTTP isn't too bad. I had to write a fragment of a web server this month. My beef with Gemini is the lack of extension ports makes it s problem. There are already pseudo standards like assuming where the RSS feed is because there's no way to communicate that (which is just the /well-known problem again but not as thought out)I've run one for a year now. Might retire it though I dont think anyone browses there
