For what it's worth, strong evidence that the "inflation" (general rise in price levels) experienced now in the US is Potato Policy driven and mostly confined to the US. Were it a global phenomenon it would appear differently in both currency exchange rates and price level increases in other countries (here in Saigon prices are stable with fully stocked shelves). Here are four 10 year appreciation charts for Chinese Yuan, Euro, Israeli Shekel, and Vietnamese Dong - each against USD.

@StevenDouglas A strong rise in energy prizes in the eurozone:https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php?title=File:Euro_area_annual_inflation_and_its_main_components,_December_2011_-_December_2021.png

@StevenDouglas As we all know, oil prices, say, have only risen in the US ...

@Debradelai Wow, nice chart. With energy costs in turn affecting the price of everything. I didn't even notice the gas price increases here until a couple of weeks ago when I looked it up. Ignored it because it's a few bucks to fill up a motorbike. So $5 rather than $3 didn't even catch my attention.Thank you.

@StevenDouglas In communist countries you'll never see inflation, by the way.And yes, cost of fuel is at the root.

@Debradelai See, and I don't even begin to know why that is (about communist countries and inflation). You have wealth of information and perspective that I've ALWAYS been missing. It's not common sense stuff. I know that based on just how uncommon your understanding is relative to just how common ignorance and buffoonery are. Including mine. Mea culpa, no shame because I'm all ears, and thank you.

@StevenDouglas When the state controls the cost of goods and services and considers currency the property of the people making it untradable...prices remain the same. Until goods become scarse and the black market kicks in, that is.

@Debradelai @StevenDouglas And similar to Fascist Democrats, Communist Dictators simply declare that "there is no inflation (or anything else they want to erase from history)" and their vassals agree it does not exist. ** Pardon the 3rd man in.

@StevenDouglas lets say government-enabled. We have now in Germany a progressive plus on gas and heating oil prizes (already done by the last government), a jump each jan 1.Yesterday I filled my car in Switzerland, but I saved only 1.5 Euros, hardly worth the ride, people at the polish and austrian border are better off.
