This is why I'm so supportive of 3rd party services like #Mycroft. This app isn't even required. It's a shortcut, and it still has a billion installs. Google listens to billions of people, all the time. The amount of data this allows them to gather on everyone, not just users of their devices, is unfathomable. https://www.androidpolice.com/google-assistant-app-installs-double-to-1-billion-in-just-7-months/

@mike this touches upon why I am going to be integrating #mycroft into #coventry. Imagine trustworthy voice assist summoned from any sip phone device or endpoint.

@mike Ideally the #mycroft sip adapter should prove generic enough to work with other things, like #asterisk and #freeswitch, too. Having #coventry specific skills that reach coventry features by hitting coventry specific web endpoints should make it well adapted for me. To get an idea of where I am going with Coventry, there is this...https://codeberg.org/gnutelephony/coventry/wiki/Features

@mike This is so disturbing to hear that many installs of Google Assistant. Unreal how so many are blind to see the harm. This isn't a small invasion. I've started to feel I have to as an individual ask are such devices present and if so adjust accordingly or leave the area. Bothers me to know end because we were the crazy ones just because we don't want to be recorded, tracked, etc.

@adamsdesk At this point, there's very little reason to ask. The answer is yes. As of January 2022, an estimated 6.64 billion people have smartphones. The VAST majority of those phones are either Android or iPhones, and both of those platforms listen to you unless it's been otherwise specified. I'd be willing to bet that more than 95% of those people DON'T turn off their "assistant". So, even if YOU don't have a smartphone, or you've disabled the assistant on one, you're still being listened to.

@mike @adamsdesk I think that it should be more than 95% since I am the only one not to activate Google Assistant in my neighnorhood, as you know they say that the features are very cool and amazing. Otherwise, they just don't want to turn it off. When those people are becoming more and more greedy, they're really the stupid ones to be easily fooled by the smart ones.
