The antagonist also literally does not have a motive. The first season is one of the worst arcs in the series.

The Alicization season is the high point of the series imo and even then its only "ok". Kawahara found a neat concept for once. The season immediately after (Dark War) quickly dispels any notion that the series was headed in a good direction.

Similarly, the original writer of Tenchi Muyo (originally did eroge manga iirc) didn't have as much creative control of the first Tenchi Muyo OVA season nor really any of Tenchi Universe.. but it became popular and he tried to turn it into some hackneyed evangelion ripoff....That only makes any sense if you read the light novels from 1999 (only recently officially translated to English), which, I do not recommend lol. they're mediocre, though I admit that part of that is probably bad prose from the translator.Even with that it's still silly and stupid.And then there's Tenchi Muyo: War on Geminar and I fell asleep half-way through the second episode while streaming it with a friend.

@DerSauerkraut @TornadoOfTerror It was supposed to be only one season and to do with the themes of the superman problem where the hero is to OP.However it was an insane hit and they wanted more so they had to do a whole second season that gets bogged down in world building. Garou wasn't a bad character, trouble was the writing was sloppy
