@Debradelai “You’ve got to know where you come from,” he said in a phone interview from his California home. “You’ve got to know where you come from. It’s unfortunate that a lot of us don’t.”This sentence struck me. I can’t go back beyond my great great grandparents, who came from Poland and Russia. There are no documents left to research as they were destroyed by the Nazis and Soviets.

@Debradelai What an amazing story. Thank you for sharing this Saul.I can't imagine the feeling that Mr. Miller must have had the first time he walked through the front door as the owner of that house. I think I would have just sat on the front stoop and bawled from the enormity of it.Being an AF Brat, I've only seen a few relatives a couple of times in my life. Mainly when I was a young child. -1

@Debradelai I've had limited time to research my genealogy but what I've found is quite fascinating, including the possibility of a descendant of a 'free' black man, President Polk and Bishop Richard Cox, my 12th maternal great grandfather that served on King Henry the VIII's court (think Anne Boleyn).I think the lack of family connections that hand down your history leaves anyone with a need to know where they have come from. At least it did with me. I have so much more to learn.-2

@Debradelai —Thanks so very much for posting this article. It’s how people can actually trace their own history, as opposed to buying into a false narrative (CRT).

@Debradelai Interesting read. I recently had a friend tell me about the time he took his family to a plantation (I believe in S Carolina). The tour guide was also a professor at a local college. The reason he gave the tours was due to his grandparents having lived on that plantation as slaves. He said most folks don't realize that slaves made up 4% (not a typo!) of the population. 1/2
