Does Psalm 23 cause you to have a Pavlovian weepy response?

My experience with it here in the USA wasn't from religious services growing up (recovering Catholic and now Wiccan) but when I was doing community organizing in an urban environment I spent alot of time in Black churches doing coalition building and often when we were doing a public direct action the members of the congregations taking part often read Psalm 23 out loud to their group before we started the action. So, it doesn't evoke an actual emotional response when I hear it, but I think quite fondly about those allies.

Spoken, not sung. I hate the hymn version (Crimond), but don't mind the Howard Goodall setting or the John Rutter one in the requiem. I had to learn psalm 100 by heart at school when I was six. My favourite passage is probably Ecclesiastes 3 1-8 .

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.I think for me one of the most powerful parts of the Bible is when the curtain rips in two in the Holy of Holies. When you have a very deep grasp of the old testament, the law and the religious system. It is a deeply profound moment of incomprehensible power.

it was richard osman, but richard gere too for his smarmy look and walk, like 'i'm just so fucking amazing every woman wants to fuck me'... I felt the same about the oceans 11 guy, but actually having watched a wide spectrum of his stuff I have warmed to him because he's in a lot of stuff where he doesn't take himself seriously.KB dislike is because of his in your faceness, like he's so amazing. Its a bit like the guy who sings opera style in that ad for a comparison website, KB does one for a phone service provider, and he carries on like he's all that, an he really ain't. It may be that the ad has done him a disservice but he's become like your worst car salesman!

Ha, ha, that Gere rant sound exactly like my mom when one of his movies popped up on the tv screen. She hated also young Walken, watching The Deerhunter with her was a nightmare. Some serious Vietnam story, but all she talked about was how much he hated that "doll-face" Nicky. George Clooney gets a thumbs up from me for being in the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. I don't think I've ever watched him in anything else but nonsense. He looked very confused in that nipple Batman costume. 😆

He played the father of DiCaprio's character in Catch Me If You Can. He used to play a lot of gangster types in the 90s. If I remember correctly he has been in two movies with Depp, Sleepy Hollow and Nick of Time. My favourite was a low budget horror flick called The Prophecy (God's Army in my country) where he plays the archangel Gabriel.

yes, he is! huh, funny thats the film I was talking about and you had mentioned him and I couldn[t think of anything he'd been in, but he was in that. I recall a lot more of the antics he got up to and not so much about the parents he left behind, just remember him seeing he had a sister when he was outside in the snow at christmas. that horror sounds horror! I don't have the stomach for it, like sleepy hollow too! far too creepy.

I didn't like horror when I was a teen, but my taste in movies, books and games has become grisly over the years. Sometimes I watch too much horror, exploitation and slashers. Body horror is one of my favourite genre (Cronenberg, Clive Barker), but I try to watch something comedic in between. Feminist spaces made me aware that indulging in that kind of stuff can get addictive. "A Serbian Film" was my limit, I would have a fit whenever someone would dare to call that movie art or important or whatever. Thinking about it The Prophecy might have been my gateway into horror, I remember being freaked out at Sleepy Hollow when I watched it at the cinema in 1999. I also hated The Hunger and Candyman back then, but can appreciate them now.

I don't have much of an opinion about Bacon, he neither irritates me or makes me leap with joy. The Woodman is a movie that bothers me because a pedo is the main character. Depp seems to have become a one trick pony since at least the first Pirate movie (wasn't he a more versatile actor before the popularity of Sparrow?). A friend of mine loved Nicholas Cage, it must have been because she found his overacting funny, it just can't be his looks, no way. I have enjoyed some of his characters, but him as a romantic lead just seems ridiculous.

There are lots of overrated actors who get most of the screen parts in Hollywood. Most of my favourite actors are British; Alec Guinness, Alistair Sim, Joan Hickson, Brenda Blethyn, Roger Allam, Ellie Haddington, George Costigan, Alan Rickman, Sian Phillips, John Hurt to name but a few. Great character actors.

yeah, Depp has played far better characters than sparrow. I saw him in an old one recently, he must've only been 20 or so, in a family with a morbidly obese mother, and his younger brother was a very young leo caprio, both were really good. He was in edward scissorhands which was hugely popular for some reason. Cages looks and romance are frankly creepy; I can't understand anyone believing in his romantic lead. Feels cruel, but its just not. If he were portrayed realistically, based on his looks and vibe and therefore well matched with a partner who was equal in both respects, that would be more believable.

So much of how we perceive how good an actor is comes from them being cost in the right part as well as how much we enjoyed the film. It's a delicate balance. When I've directed amateur shows, you have to work with who you have, but getting the cast into the right parts is vital if you want the audience to go along with the story.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape, DiCaprio totally stole that one, which made me decide to not completely hate him back in the 90s. I really liked the last movie he was in "Don't Look Up" I think it was called.I loved everything Tim Burton when I was a gothic teen (now I'm a gothic adult), I had that movie on VHS. In a review of City of Angels the reviewer mocked Cage's face when the female lead had to swoon over him. It was cruel, but it gave me a good laugh.😂

Its not a Psych Institute is it, where he doesn't realise he's the patient?#As I've seen that in the last couple of years, was very good, but wouldn't know its name.He was typical type in The Beach, which I found quite interesting, for him to play the role that was predictably him maybe?

Shit my memory is crap sometimes, I've watched Shutter Island, The Beach and he was also in Inception. I didn't like his character in The Beach, the very first line is a bit edgelord. I was disappointed that the place he found away from society was just another crowded community plagued by rules, just like our everyday society. I hoped the film would be about a guy who found a serene paradise where he could live in solitude. Yeah Shutter Island is the psych institute with an obvious twist ending. I played a video game based on that movie.
