I feel like this is a big deal, but maybe it's not. I know #Activision and the #Blizzard group in particular has been having some serious issues lately, and it's been questionable whether they were going to be able to pull themselves out of that spiral. Maybe a purchase by #Microsoft (or anybody really anybody with SOME gaming credentials) is exactly what they need. Either way, I don't think we'll be seeing these games running on #Linux any time soon. https://news.microsoft.com/2022/01/18/microsoft-to-acquire-activision-blizzard-to-bring-the-joy-and-community-of-gaming-to-everyone-across-every-device/

@mike It'll be good for the company, but it's also going to make Micro$oft into more of a gaming monopoly. But, if they allow the games on game pass you can play them on Linux through the browser, but not natively. not quite a win there though.

@Mundon Apparently that is the plan. The article says, "The acquisition also bolsters Microsoft’s Game Pass portfolio with plans to launch Activision Blizzard games into Game Pass". So maybe we'll all be playing Microsoft Warcraft in the browser by 2023? The idea kind of creeps me out, but just fire up Edge on Linux and away you go, right?

@mike Any Chromium based browser. I play using Brave. I don't touch Edge unless absolutely necessary.

@mike Personally, I never assume #Microsoft as a #Linux supporter since they get into the same business. What #Microsoft has contributed so far is as a marketing and a maintainance of good name for the company itself. But, (please fix for any mistake) the acquisation of Activision Blizzard by the company seems to compete with #Tencent, which has been dominating the game market especially for the mobile ones, even though Microsoft tries to dominate out of mobile games market. 1/

@mike If I were to guess what this may mean, in the future people will be denied the means to privately own computer games, or at least those from Microsoft. Instead video frames will be broadcast to low cost tv connected x-box frame decoders and windows desktops from server farms over gigabit ethernet.
