@Hyolobrika @catgirl people can't easily change their name in Germany (where I live). You need a permission with a reason. If that reason is being transgender, you need two notes from psychologists costing thousands of euros which you have to pay yourself. However, the government elected last year promised to change it. Not sure if they will actually bother though.

When it's voluntary I'm leaning towards "you should pay your way because it's not as bad as a physical illness" but I'm not sure.

@Hyolobrika @LunaDragofelis Even if being transgender is a mental health disorder, transition is still by far the most effective treatment we have. It just makes a few people uncomfortable. As for payment, you are paying your insurance to access health services (at least in the United States) so if your policy includes coverage for gender dysphoria then there's no issue using services and having your provider submit a claim for payment. I can't speak about other countries though.

It would work for people with Type 2 who still have some beta cells which can produce insulin and multiple but for Type 1s all of their beta cells have been destroyed so fixing the immune system will wouldn't fix a destroyed organ.
