@derek You're assuming I buy DRM'ed content. Well, I buy DVDs, but it would be very difficult for the vendor to yank those away from me by technical means.

@derek that's why i like platforms like bandcamp and itch. they help artists reach other people, while leaving the ability to download all the content and actually own it.

@rob @derek That's already happened with video tape, even without DRM.But I'm reminded that DRM does get in my way with DVDs. When I got a new player recently, I had to choose between decent CD functionality and all-region playing. The CD functionality was more important. That means I can play my European DVDs only on my computer, not on my TV.

@derek I just bought a bunch of parts and some more storage with a ton of room for expansion. I'm building a home Vault/NAS, a way to safeguard the data I want to keep for myself, for others. I think i'm pretty set on Arch Linux and zfs for the base tech. I like doing it all myself so I'll build it into my own custom solution variant soon. With censorship and cancel culture and with how things are changing so rapidly lately, so volatile, I think it's important to save what I think is good.
