Why is anime so often pro-government?I'm thinking Psycho-Pass and this: http://www.productionig.com/contents/works_sp/15_/index.html

@Hyolobrika Psycho-Pass predicted the future. We're almost there; a thought crime dystopia.

@Hyolobrika psycho pass was pro government? I turned it off after the pilot but the protagonist seemed to be rather upset at how cavalier they were about collateral damage

@icedquinn That's the impression I got after the second season (or was it the third?) started. It was a long time since I watched it though and I was going through a bad time.

@Hyolobrika IMO I didn't really see Psycho-Pass as pro-government. I thought it was more about the dangers of trusting yourself to a system that's been designed to 'protect' its citizenry.

@Hyolobrika I watched all of it. Or, at least, what I saw of the one that came out a few years back now.

@sethhalleway It was after season one that I started to dislike it. I only have vague recollections however.https://mstdn.io/@Hyolobrika/107640095681253496

@Hyolobrika I might need to give the other seasons a watch. Though judging by what you're saying I might not like it so much either.

@lelouchebag @icedquinn Are you basing that on all three seasons? I ask because there is someone in this thread who said the same thing, but it turned out that they had only watched the first one.

@Hyolobrika @icedquinn I watched 2 seasons and the movie (where Kou literally starts leading a rebellion of sorts). The anime itself isn't pro-gov or it'd be presenting the sybll system as utopia, when it reality it imprisons people for just being prone to crime, immortalizes sociopaths into the system, and is overall corrupt (that one scene where Sybll tries to make the MC kill Kou for attempting to expose sybll). The system is so broken in it's stride to reach a zero crime rate that it advised to kill that one chick who was going through a breakdown before tsunimori managed to calm her down and put her latency to acceptable levels. More importantly by the end of the movie sybll isn't strictly a dictatorship anymore, since tsunimori convinced the system to change itself remove the "evil" brains from the system. The anime itself isn't pro or anti government, rather sybll's just there and tsunimori makes it change for the better since in the very least it can be reasoned with. Tsunimori clearly doesn't agree with some of these practices, and ultimately she's the viewpoint the anime is trying to portray

@Hyolobrika @lelouchebag the usa already has secret credit scoring institutions and background data sharing companies that grab everything they can and mine them. over years, credit scores are tied in to more automated decision making.china's sesame score program does similar but it's overtly extended to allow social media to affect your credit score (so if your friend says something CCP doesn't like, and you don't ostracize them, you lose points etc)they deny people access to public transit based on this score. there have also been talks about adding other automatic punishments like organ harvesting (they have a very lively black market for organs which is very probably supported by the CCP according to at least one international panel)their censorship policies are exported to the USA via owning large/sometimes majority shares in western media companies, allowing them to tamper with scripts and content and they have backdoor deals with educational institutes (confuscius institute programs) to the point that western researchers are afraid to speak anything CCP doesn't like. at least one instance in switzerland exists of a PhD candidate being denied for offending china https://www.nzz.ch/english/swiss-phd-students-dismissal-spotlights-chinas-influence-ld.1638771
