@unfaWow, that's fucking creepy.A always suspected/feared they'll do something like that but having strong indicators like that brings me flashbacks to the Snowden leaks. If you have the time it would be interesting to look into the phones telemetry to cofirm the eavesdropping. I know that is a good amount of work setting up the MITM proxy, importing the fake CA, capturing and analyzing the data but that would be undeniable proof.

@dastanfury @brolf I'd rather get a PinePhone or Librem5. Though I do need a good camera and video as I use my phone fro content creation at times. ANd the Linux phones usually lag behind on that front.

You may think that the phone could capture other data and decide what ads to play.I was in a private conversation where Dutch was being spoken for some time and played through my PC's speakers, my phone was on my desk and had a clear shot at capturing the audio, though audio compression and suboptimal listening conditions may have smeared the patterns.The ads were in Danish, not Dutch, so there is no IP-based location identification. The language must have been misdetermined from the audio.

@unfa really it's a known fact, they (ggl and fb) even admitted and iirc even paid some fine (but can't remember where/when ... ) I've a friend that got scared when after a personal converation with someone about some sort of shoes, he sees ads about them in his ggl/fb accounts ... without ever having searched or cliked about that ... get a small 20€ feature phone for security, take a day, and pass your phone on /e/ , it's worth the peace of mind and really doable (just follow the steps ;p )

@Olm_e @unfa Hi, i'm interested about proof that acoustic signal is used.There are so many metatada leaks that it could be something else.Also, not necessarily Google but any app or lib installed on your phone. Or another device close to you like a smartphone as your advertisment profile is cross devices.

@syscrash @hastur @unfa i get ads in dutch, but only because i'm connected through vpn that is located in amsterdam.although, when i only started using it, youtube was freaking out and couldn't get location properly. that's why i've seen ads in arabic a lot.
