I've been thinking about it too and without considering the role of women in modern society it feels like our sexual dimorphism through evolutionary optimization developed in such a way that the value of a woman's reproductive system (pregnancies are time-gated, limited fertility period, etc) is crafted in such a way that the value she gains from it allows her to survive in pretty much any human society.If you take that away from them and just craft artificial wombs, it all falls apart

A reverse Harem of the End scenario where just having a selected group of women giving birth to men wouldn't cut it because women have a substantially large time gap between being viable for pregnancy, so really you'd need a sophisticated craft to completely null their default societal value
