       Stating the obvious, part 33.“Woman” is a social construct in the same way as “gravity” is a social construct. Sure, the relevant equations and theories were created by people, but if you jump off a cliff, you’re still going to fall.

       @Gnomeshatecheese is morons have completely ruined the concept of the social construct. A great example of social construct as paper money. It has no actual value but we all agree it has a specific value and we use it to buy things of value. Sex is real and immutable and can be seen every time we have sex, get pregnant, give birth, and menstruate.

       I know. If one stretches the definition, then yes, everything is a “social construct”, but that means stretching it to essentially meaninglessness. Or rather, it becomes a completely different concept, which doesn’t anymore say what they claim it does. Gravity is also very real, and can be seen/experienced every time we jump off a cliff.

       I keep wanting to yell at them, "oh, so if I want to avoid pregnancy I just need to conceptualize myself differently?!"There was a right-wing American politician who about eight years ago claimed that "true" rape never resulted in an unwanted pregnancy because because "women have ways of shutting that stuff down," referring to some sort of magical mental power. It rightly tanked his career, but now the left also talks as if we can think our way out of being female.

Their objection would be that having to deal with the risk of pregnancy has nothing to do with “being a woman”, it’s just a coincidence that most people who call themselves women also happen to be at risk of pregnancy. Of course it’s a nonsense objection, which relies on starting from the conclusion and then reasoning one’s way back to it, but they don’t care. They just want soundbites, logic or reason be damned.
