       Just deduped about 6 days worth of media uploads (11.4k new files) and saved 14.2 GB of disk space.XFS is a wonderful filesystem! Silicone Graphics was way ahead of their time. cc @matrixScreenshot_20220111-161338.png

       @sjw @matrix There's a reason redhat still uses it. It works, its stable.

       @MischievousTomato @sjw @nonetrix XFS is faster for gigantic drives and slower for smaller ones if I remember correctly.

       @MischievousTomato @matrix I wonder how hard that would be to add. I know it got added to F2FS.XFS with LZO-RLE compression would be super nice for a database. Might actually speed things up because you're lowering the bottleneck of the disk.ZSTD would be a nice balance and might as well include LZO and LZ4 for people who want those.

       @nonetrix @matrix @MischievousTomato higher performance and the ability to perform out of band deduplication.Ext4 and Btrfs are two completely different filesystems tho. XFS is more akin to ext4.Btrfs is kind of a clusterfuck still. Sad.

       @matrix @MischievousTomato @nonetrix that hasn't been true for about 8 years now.And it's files, not drives.

       @MischievousTomato @matrix eh, lz4 is arguably faster than LZO and gives better compression ratios. LZO-RLE is even faster and gives even better compression ratios.

       @MischievousTomato @matrix @ceruds @nonetrix just throw some recovery images in your /boot partition. As long as /boot is fine you can always boot into a working image with all the tools you need to fix whatever is broken.
