I'm more and more convinced of blood/genetic memory since I have never lived anywhere without mountains or forests. And I have done that intentionally. Most of my ancestors were either Celtic, Germanic or Scandinavian, and I think that has something to do with this. Cause I've been to places without either of those things and they've never felt like a place I would want to call home.

@deepo I'm not saying I'm a full believer, and know that when people talk about this stuff 99% of the time it's just to be funny. But I also wonder why I prefer certain places over others, why some feel naturally nicer. Maybe that's just my life experience, or maybe it's something deeper. I don't know, just a thought I had.

@johnnyappleseed I guess it's because these places are simply better. The air quality is better, there's less noise, they're not ugly, the smells are more pleasant etc.

@deepo That's true, but there are places in the Great Plains or in the Southwest that have less noise, good air, and that are certainly not ugly. But for me I just don't like the idea of being separated from mountains or lots and lots of trees; even if all the aforementioned good things you mentioned where there.
