From the neither here nor there department, it's now or never for yours [cyborg] truly. Major oral surgery Tuesday morning (Monday PM SQV time). All-on-six implants. Great deal and I get to make payments. So I'll be an uglier older man sipping dinner smoothies through fat straws for a month before the top temporary is ratcheted in and I look magically un-homeless again. And hopefully no more lockdowns (help me, Omicron, you're my only pope).

@YoungBlood Yes they are, my dentist corrected me (through my wife earlier this evening). I didn't realize that extractions and implants would take place at the same time. Glad I'll be out cold for all of it.So there will be a temporary bridge (good!), one I can't chew on (anything harder than a ripe grape) for the first month, then very lightly after that for six months.

@Yucca I had "all-on-six" implants done on my lower jaw six months ago (with a bridge that I think will be replaced with permanent porcelain teeth on Tuesday). They put the temporary bridge in one day before the hard lock down began six months ago.It was about a month of pain, but the real serious pain subsided within about a week, I just stayed heavily medicated for it. We'll see!

@StevenDouglas I had an implant in late 2018. It cost about $1,800. I was planning on getting the other two that I needed within 6 months of the first one. But, surprise! My son was born April 2019 and cost a lot more than I expected. He had to go in NICU for a few days. Very expensive! But I’ve almost got that paid off now and will get the other two sometime this year. I didn’t feel much pain from having just one done. Good luck!

@MarcusJ65 Dental and medical vacations are a real thing. People can have a fully paid vacation here plus dental work and still save a ton of money.A single implant here runs anywhere from $250 to $1k. The top teeth I have now is a single composite piece. They were put over my natural teeth which were ground down to spikes eight years ago. For $500.That included all prep work, extractions, multiple root canals, and whatever else was needed to get the piece ready for mounting.

@StevenDouglasWhile Steven can steer you in the right direction in VietNam please please don’t go to the Caribbean or Costa Rica for plastic surgery. We got one or two patients a month who went for the “cheap” surgery and came home botched or infected. Tummy tuck in Dominican, surgeon took out too much skin, sutures popped open on plane, massive infectionShe needed rounds of skin grafts to repair, now has scars on belly & legs from skin grafts.

I was called to come in yesterday afternoon (my Monday) to prep for surgery this morning (8:30pm US Eastern).The top appliance was destroyed to ensure that all tooth decay below was removed prior surgery. So I look like the fabled chupacabra for one night until all those little spiked teeth are removed this AM.On Thursday(?) I'll have a six month temporary appliance put in while everything heals. Hope it's not flashy white. *cringe*

@StevenDouglas After years of some heinous teeth, I had some implants done…had to get bone-graphs, but at the end of the day, I can’t complain. I did not do it for cosmetic reasons, just to make up for lost back teeth. Life is good

@RangerJohn Yes, the dentist threw in several bone grafts as part of the deal. It all happens at the same time and is part of why I have to be careful and the healing process will take longer than it would normally.Aesthetics are one thing (don't want to scare people) but you hit on the key. The ability to eat healthy food is crucial at my age going forward. These teeth will be good for at least twenty years, easily and cheaply replaced.Life IS good. And it's time!

Nirvana+ 3) IV with anesthesiologist. Kick ass!+ 4) Locals! (Lidocaine)Semiconscious, felt nothing. For icing on the contrast cake I was sent home with three days worth of pain meds: 5) Tylenol. 500mg1 morning, 1 evening. Can you beleedatshit?!Off to the pharmacy for some real pain meds.

So out of habit I took an 81mg aspirin tablet this morning with my multivitamin. My dentist said no problem, it would just take a little longer for my gums to clot.Normally my wounds close extremely fast if I apply pressure, but it's almost always followed by some kind of inflammation.After 3 hours of spitting blood my saliva is now clear, and because my water intake was a liter and a half there's also zero inflammation. Mild soreness and almost nothing that I would call pain.Interesting?

@StevenDouglas My 1st extractions (all but 7 for later) went like a breeze. Little bleeding, little pain. I was shocked. Learning what and how to eat was just a thought process for me to see what was tolerable and healthy enuf. Settled on morning soups...chicken broths every morning. You learn as you go I guess. Keep up doing great it seems!

Can’t imagine having 6 with no real pain relief once the locals wore off.It’s becoming common for ERs not to prescribe pain meds either. Daughter’s boyfriend had a *bad* wrist/hand laceration on Christmas Eve. (I’d post pictures but you DON’T want to see.) They only prescribed antibiotics.

Augmentin, chymotrypsin (enzyme for breaking down proteins and speeding up medicinal uptake) and Prednisone.Not going to take the Prednisone because inflammation is not a problem this time and I don't want my immune system depressed. But that would have been an indirect pain killer of sorts I suppose. Shocked to say this but as it turns out the Tylenol (Paracetamol in VN) she gave me is almost optional.

And that "prescription" can be verbal - by the pharmacist! Only proven and truly dangerous opiates are controlled. I can buy antibiotics and very powerful painkillers everywhere without needing to pay a stinking doctor to be my intermediary.
