Just bit the bullet and walked through @kev's tutorial on how to set up a Jekyll site on Netlify and Github. It's not pretty and it's not mine yet but it's up! (Will share once it's done). It was so easy and enjoyable. I can't wait to make it my own. Thanks @kev!Also, thanks @mike for showing me to Kev's great article!

@s0lution main advantage is that GH pages doesn’t support Jekyll 4. Netlify also has a lot of additional features like redirects and the ability to skip builds.@cosmicnomad @mike

@kev got it, thanks! Might take a look at Netlify in the future. However, what I have now is "stupid simple" and its hard to go wrong there :)@cosmicnomad @mike

@s0lution Netlify is much the same. Sign up > connect GH > choose a repo. Netlify does the rest.@cosmicnomad @mike

@kev @s0lution @cosmicnomad I have a sneaking suspicion that the workflow would be much the same in either case. Jekyll and Netlify might give you a little bit more flexibility in what you can do with the page, but once the setup is completed, it's not going to add any extra work to your day to day. Of course, if you're not interested in that flexibility, there's also no reason to do the extra work to get Netlify working either.

@mike @kev @s0lution @cosmicnomad I have a similar workflow Pelican -> Gitlab -> PAAS Pythonanywhere for my website. I compile the static site locally, push to Gitlab and then pull the repo with a scheduled task.Advantages: I can have an application server alongside my static website.

@mike I think you're spot on with your assessment here. Netlify probably adds some flexibility in workflow that would be more important if I were managing a more important site. However, my personal blog, who knows when I'll post updates and if anyone even visits it... Then again switching to Netlify seems non-disruptive and easy enough. @kev @cosmicnomad

@kev @mike Also, one thing I noticed is on "Step 4d" it mentions the navigation.html file but doesn't say what to add to get the navigation working. It does however show what was added in it "Step 4g" where it shows everything all together but "Step 4d" didn't mention adding it and it can get possibly be overlooked by newer users if they don't catch it.Other then that everything works flawlessly. Thanks again.
