@dielan hey just wondering, but do you have any thoughts about housing in Western Washington?

@demas property value is skyrocketing. Seattle is sort-of at the epicenter and as you go further away from it the prices come down but right now tech workers with freshly vested RSUs are cashing out and buying land further and further away form the big city, which supply cannot keep up so you see prices increase in places most people would not consider commuting to the office from.My in-laws are real estate agents and they've been closing on property in the middle of nowhere so fast you'd think it was actually in the city. Crappy houses in crappy towns are seeing multiple day-one offers above asking price. My house, without an appraisal (if I got it appraised it would incorporate my improvements and value even higher) has increased about $40K in value for just existing in the 1.5 years i've had it. That was only the last time I checked it's probably even higher now.

Let the prices keep rising. It’s great for debtors, like people who have mortgages.

@dielan well darn I didn't realize things were that bad even in places folks wouldn't commute from. Thanks for sharing your insight. Any idea why big tech workers are buying houses further from the city?

@demas land is a good investment. Also most people are working from home if possible, so it doesn't matter if you live in a place like Seattle or the middle of nowhere

@dielan Huh I was under the impression that tech workers would care about attractions and amenities being around them. Wouldn't being in the middle of nowhere make it hard for them to get to those attractions? (Thinking of restaurants, fun activities, etc.)

@demas Well those things aren't really abundant in Seattle in the first place. Most people working in Seattle don't live there unless you're super rich. So retail and recreational industry has always been outside the city in various towns. The city itself is just a tourist trap

@dielan Huh I had no idea. Thanks for enlightening me. Just curious, what are some things you and your family do for fun in the Greater Puget Sound area Dielan?

@demas Park visits are pretty good all year 'round thanks to evergreen trees and very little snow. Same for hiking trails if you are into that. There's also lots of off road motorsports and tracks if you are a dirt bike haver or ATV or jeep haver. Its also not too hard to find a favorite bar or restaurant in whatever not-Seattle town you actually live in. I frequent one that doubles as an arcade. Also everybody seems to have a pretty big yard, my house included so sometimes the kids just run around outside and are content at home
